About
Agathe Balayn is a postdoctoral researcher at the TU Delft Faculty of Technology, Policy, and Management (TPM) in the Netherlands. She holds a PhD in Computer Science and Human-Computation Interaction from TU Delft (EEMCS faculty). Her research focuses on uncovering the harms that deploying machine learning systems into society can raise, understanding their causes, and envisioning remedies. Relying on in-depth qualitative, empirical, inquiries in the production environments of these systems, Agathe analyzes machine learning using a social, organizational, and political-economical lens, that remains informed by the technical realities of production.
She is eager to bring her in-depth technical and HCI understanding of machine learning to the REAL ML community, and to explore together different lenses through which to investigate machine learning and reframe its functioning and capabilities.
